This report isn't an 'ethical shopping guide'. The way to help workers is not to boycott one company in favour of another, it's to shift from being a passive consumer to an active one. Each time you buy clothes, get in touch with the company you bought them from, ask them what they are doing about the recommendations in this report. Together, we can - and we will - clean up fashion. |

| i work at a primark store. i think my wages are ok but its not enough for all the shit u get frm customers. i think the managers are ok hav never been treated unfairly by them but sometimes wish they wud help more than they do. as for ETI primak have been part of it since 06 and have done more than most other more expensive stores people shuldnt believe everything they read in papers. |

| Because the fashion is soo cheap they are made in sweat shops in places like India.I never relised the conditions that the workers worked in were so bad untill I saw the BBC program, BLOOD,SWEATAND T-SHIRTS. I think we should all care about were are clothes come from, so have a thought when you buy cheap clothes. |

| Primark is fantasic cheap clothes good quality up to the minute fashions is it not up to the people to make up their minds if they want to shop their if they strongly aree against it then they can walk on by .stop moaning for people like us on small wages it is perfect i will never stop shopping at primark . |

| it seems from the comments here that primark treat ALL their employees pretty poorly, whether overseas or the uk! they really should be pulled up on this. the fact most high street stores keep schtum about their workers only says they've got lots to hide. i bet if we were shown the reality without any fluffy clouds or long winded nonsense high street sales would shoot down. we can all do our bit - write to the companies, tell them you're worried about their ethical policies, shop in charity shops and choose companies that treat their staff with dignity and respect. dye your tatty old clothes or take them to a shop or dressmaker who will remake them into something wonderful and unique. made a new skirt out of an old pair of jeans - it's really simple, do an online search. all you need is jeans, scissors and a needle and thread. fair trade/ethically produced clothing doesn't have to be hippy dippy - have a look at american apparel if you don't believe me! i don't think total boycotting is the answer but we can all do something to support the organisations who do try and make the world a better place. |

| U'd all be surprised of how little there is in fairtrading on the market today! There is alot of clothing that charge far too much when most clothes cost pennies to make! People should research before putting blame on one store! It could be the store you shop at!!!! Also check your make-up! If it doesn't say then they test on Animals. It's disgusting if you think thats ok but unfair trading isn't!!!! |

| Ok, anyone who uses THIS reason: 'If we don't buy from Third-World workers, the factories will close so they won't have a job and then they'll have no money anyway. We're actually doing them a favour by supporting their crappy £1.50 a day wage!' is STUPID. That's NOT how the system works. Nobody is suggesting that we fire all the Bangladeshi workers and leave them jobless! What we're suggesting is that we pay more for clothes on the high street, so that there's more money in the system, and put laws in place so that they GET this money. That's the aim. |

| Why is everybody moaning for, primark is the best, its simple if you dont like it there dont shop there and if everybody thinks its unfair pay then dont work there its as simple as that what the hell is there to moan about ITS CHEAP!! People should just grow up and stop moanig ![]() |

| i luv primeark everythin is so cheap mw n my m8s r plannin 2 get sone shirts from there for a challenge set from schl |

| i do agree that yeah its awful, however if the people makin primarks clothes wrent working to mae them they wouldn't be working at all!!!! |

| having shopped in primark for years and been happy to tell people of my £1 bargains, i am veering now towards just using charity shops and other more ethical means. i agree with some of the previous comments. the bottom line is though, whether it is working class family's or not who shop there and 'can't afford anything else', we all have way more clothes than we need. the charity shops are full of primark goods, half of them with the labels still on as people don't even bother getting refunds because it is so cheap. all our wardrobes are bulging, even the girls i work with who are in care have frequent clear outs to charity because they can now buy so many clothes from primark that they have way too many. it's crazy. while i love getting a bargain, i also like to think of myself as ethical and fair; i don't think that shopping in primark and being ethical can necessarily go hand in hand....so i will have to decide what to do now |

| hey scraba i think your getting the wrong end of this its not strictly about the pay with primark as i said before i worked at showcase cinemas for a short while on the same wage and at the time was fine with it however unlike showcase cinemas primark shows its employees no respect at all. ive been through all this and so has chudz its about the overtime they make you do even though its not in your contract and the abuse the employees get from the managers who are all lazy bastards that stand there all day and once again theres no perks at primark nothing zilch from a customers point of view its bliss cheap clothes id being lying if i said after my gf quit that i havent been back because i hav a few times until i did read about it in the guardian about the fact the people who make the clothes work 80 hours a week and only earn 5p and hour!!now i shop elsewhere regardless of price besides the stuff you get in primark is all cheaply made crap popular with the unemployed as well as students dream maybe but im taking a year out before uni and to hell am i gona get my clothes there next year! you know i may actually go work there for a week and wait for the inevitable abuse from the managers having a short temper en all it would be fun to see how quickly i could get fired for beating up a manager actually nah ill stick to game design XD |

Primark is good&its also cheap. its just like another Newlook&Topshop.. but cheaper ![]() |

| There have always beed and going to be a problem with underpaing employees! You people should already get over with this!!! Don't you know it's all about the money and is not going to change!!! Sorry but it's simple as that. |

hiya i currently work for primark in bradford, i enjoy the job and the hours as you dont have to work weekends and get bank holidays off which is cool, the bad thing is the wage it is sooooo crap they dont pay enough for all the shit you get especially from the managers, there is quite a few people there that take the piss but we get the shit for it its not fair, and i wish the customers would have more consideration for us when shopping they treat it like a pig sty, theres quite a few managers there and there attitude stinks you dont go to work to be treat like crap, the friends i have meet there r nice people, i also dont like the fact that members of staff and manangment r actually dating each other and they get the teachers pet treatment its so unfair, u get all there shit jobs while they can chill, and also theres a lot of bitchness and two faced people, so watch out if you get a job with primark! ![]() |

| well i tinkk primarkk is ok i am getting uggs from dere but sometimes it does irratate me dat peoplewho live in africa only get 50p a dayy. datts berr tightt |

| I hate penny's because of their unfair trade but the people who work there just so you know, you do't have to. |

| I am going for an interview at Primark today, I have heard it is shit. I have worked in several shops; Poundland, Somerfield, Savers and TJ Hughes. The stuff British Primark employees complain about is normal. £4.60 is the minimum wage. Employers have kept me behind in every job I have worked in because some lazy ass is not pulling their weight. And the managers are always bastards. They can be, they are higher powered than lowly shop assistants (in somebodys warped mind this makes sense). I have read Primarks ETI and it sounds fair, although there is no guarrantee that it is happening. Third world countries need to sort themselves out,but our government needs to make them. I think one of the sicker things in this world is celebrities. Think how much David Beckham or George Clooney is paid. Then think about what their job entails. SWEET FUCK ALL!!! For shit loads of money. I worked out once that the amount David beckham spent a month (supposedly) on underpants could feed an HIV orphaned Malawian child for 2 years and 2 months, thats three meals a day. If we want to sort out the inequalities in this world we have got to do something ourselves, whether it is making sure that it is constantly in the press to shame companies into doing something. Or going to these poor countries our selves and sorting it out. The world wasnt made in 7 days with the snao of God's fingers, so it sure as hell can't be fixed that easily! |

| i buy things from primark. people who moan about the unfair pay and work conditions should really open there eyes. its been going on for years and what did they really expect.they employyees are living it large. get real. most people that have a problem with primark probably have bought at least one thing from there. |

| I think that primark is a nice shop but the employees are realy moody and streses and it realy pisses me off wen you go into a shop and they are pulling nast faces at you and always grunting i get so fustrated. I do think tht they have low reasonable prices but it is all true what people are saying the employees are staying after their contract times i use to work there for about 7 months and it was really shit because your not always working. most of the time you are standing around or aving a break and that is probably why you av 2 stay longer after you contract time is over. i use to work in the one in town and then i moved to the one in thw white rose centre. They are both messy and shit the clothes were always all over the floor and we had to slave around picking them all up. I now work in river irland on a weekend and in republic through the week it is much better there they are both in white rose and you get much better wages than that shit hole. Eny way thanks for reading xxxxx ![]() |

| I used to work in Primark and i have to agree with chudz, it's awful! I only used to work four hours on a staurday and sunday as i'm a student, but every now and then, when i worked overtime till the store closed i was forced to stay till my contracted hours doing returns, and tidying, while the managers and supervispors shout at you and abuse you, i'm surprised they didn't start whipping us, i'm sure they do that in the factories to the children working for 50p and hour. Not only that, but i had incidents of managers who were married with kids, trying to come on to me, i also had money nicked frok my purse and water drank from my bottle. Several times i had to apologiise to customers becvause of the asians who couldn't speak proper English there telling the customers to "wait!" When i left to work in a more fashionable shop whcih was in the process of opening up, my manager who owned the shop claimed how he hated primark and they are the cause of companies going bankrupt and loosing sale. He believes that Primark should not be allowed to sell clothes so cheap, aswell as mentioning the slave labour, which i was ignorant to that fact while i was working there. I cannot explain enough about the treatment of the staff by the management teams, i'm actually quite surprised because i have a really bad temper, and i did well to keep my cool while i was there. Any way they'll get their just desserts one day. I can see where those people who claim that they 'love primark' are coming from because of the fact that they get a cheap shopping spree, and i would probably feel the same but for me after working there my opinion has changed for good, and i'm, not giving them a penny of my wages i get from my new job after discovering this website and finding out about the slave labour. SCREW YOU PRIMARK IGNORANT MANAGERS I HOPE YOU SUFFER GREATLY!!!!!!!!!! |

| I absolutly 100% agree wiv pocoster's comment. PRIMARK IS D MOST SHITTEST PLACE 2 WORK IN! not only u constantly get treated shit by d management but u get alot of crap from rude customers. i mean y cnt pple juz shop der like humanz n not like dogz! it wud b soooo much easier 4 every1! ive bin workin in der 4 a lng tym now not out of choice but only coz i hve 2 coz am doin my degree! d only thing dat keepz me goin are my matez (most hve left now)! I totally understand wot ur girlfriend went thru pocoster, bcuz dat happenz 2me all d tym! u get forced to stay way longer den ur contracted hourz. at 1 tym we used 2 get forced 2 stay till 7pm on sundayz wen d store closes at 5.30pm 2 do d returnz- d managerz used2 stand around handing out returns n i dnt mean 5-10 itemz but lyk 15 n datz alot 4 sum1 small as me-imagine carryin 8 big fat heavy coatz! n d mangerz neva eva stick up 4 d employees! il b here all nite if i was 2gve examplez! once on the fitting rum a customer pushed an employee and swore at her so d employee pushed her back n guess wot d employee was tld 2 say sorry even tho it was d customerz fault, since she started it!!! we get payed so shyt considerin wot we hve 2 put up wiv, no staff discountz, we gotta go 2 customer servicez 2 buy fingz even if a pound (it tkez way longer 2 get served der) not even a thank u 4 our hard wrk n favourz! |

| it think primake is a really good shop because its cheap and shell alot of shuff that most people like. they always have the fasion and if u went in 2 top shop and buy a top then go in 2 primark and get the same top cheaper xxx |

| again i agree bout the the people who make the cloths are under paid. but the people who say primark is bad because of of the amout that people gets paid well it ant primarks falt. and i just want to say that the person who said well get another job if your under paid yeah your reite it ant easy and the point is it ant about weather your under paid or not when you live alone and some have children and what you do earn goes on bills and your children. so when it comes to primark it makes life that little bit easyer when it comes to buying cloths. so the people who dis primark need to step bck and think what about other retail shop just because they cost more money does not mean that the people who make the cloths get more money and on that point i just want to add that england has its own problem with poor people etc how do you expect us to help them when we can't even help our selfs i do feel sorry for other contrys please don't get me wrong its just our contry is in a mess. anyways if you don't like primak then don't shop they thats your choice. but leave primark alone as i said it ant they falt. |

| ok i agree to a point that no one should work for 50p an hour thats just dame rite slave labour. but people like myself who don't have alot of money and getting sick to the bck teeth of going in to a cloths shop and haven to buy cloths for 20+. i went in to a shop and wanted to buy myself a few tops for work i look at the price and falt no way. 18.99 for a plan shirt i went in to primark and saw the same shirt for 6 pound and i manged to get a few shirts and some tops. i mean u people moan about prices being to high and now your moaning bout them being too low. not everyone as the luxury of getting money off mummy and daddy. i don't wish to sound rude but like myself i have to work really hard to just get the things i want. and primark is a good shop and i do love shopping they even if its a bit messy and all the cloths are scatted all over the place. |

i love primark why bye things that are so expensive when you can get the same for a much cheaper price. but i must say the only thing i don't like about primark is they dress sizes. they used to do for people who were that little bigger. ie up to a 20 but now the only big size they do is a 16/18. whitch i think is wrong as not everyone is the same size. but part from that it's the best shop. ![]() |

| There are very few people I agree with on this topic. Most of the people in the 'i luv primark, itz well gud' vein who have posted have missed the point entirely...but they're clearly simple so we'll just ignore them. Basically human society has ALWAYS existed with some group of people or another being exploited for cheap labour. That doesn't make it right or acceptable and in an ideal world we'd all be sunning ourselves by a pool sipping a tall glass of something cold. The pyramids were built by cheap labour, the great wall of china, even the industrial revolution which brought us the delights of mass production and easy world travel...yup, you guessed it, cheap labour. Once all the clothes we bought in the UK were made by children and the poor in horrible factories, they were paid terrible wages and lived in poverty too. But by the end of the 19th century and early 20th century we'd made progress. While we were patting ourselves on the back about how ethical and progressive we were, child and cheap labour didn't disapear. It just moved. It moved to less developed countries and so did the problems that went with it. Eye-opener was right, although unethical companies don't help by taking advantage of this fact, it is the society and governments where this happens, which are to blame not the companies themselves. Boycotting won't make anymore difference than trying to start a bonfire under the sea. I'm a poor student and I like primark clothes, I can't afford more expensive clothes and if only 50p of that £4 t-shirt I bought goes to someone in the third world for the day/week/month whatever, then at least it's going to them at all. And one day when they rise up, demand better rights and their government becomes more liberal and progressive and they start driving Ford Focus' to work in some mediocre office job, then the exploitation can move on somewhere else, because let's face it, it's human nature and it will never go away unless we get wiped out or revert to living as hunter gatherers in mud huts like we're supposed to. |

I totally love primark, everything is in style and cheap and know matter what it rocks !! ![]() |

Primark actually rocks ur cotton socks ![]() Cheap- its great! i always buy here cos its got an amazingly low price range xx |

| read the comments & is like LOL if youre underpaid, quit & find a new job 'not as easy as it sounds i know' but you'll cope... Minimum wage is crap pay. |

| I work with Primark in Ireland, on one of the flagships, generally everything's fantastic, the job's stressful but it's flak you can take. We're paid well above the minimum wage (starting), there are perks, in-store promotions (that actually occur), through reading store documents the company are taking the ETI initiative very seriously. Every staff member is actually quizzed on the ETI, and you do get the occasional visit from Head Office undercover asking questions. Buyers, VDM's and everyone else knows the story. **People who aren't happy with their work situation regarding Primark in the UK, join a trade-union. You're contract allows it and also if you have one get a new Union Rep.** |

Primark is simply the best ![]() |

I love primark very much ![]() |

| Aa anon said, Primark has put in place an ethical trade strategy wich is a first step. I'm surprised nobody bounced back on what eyeopener said. I agree with him/her that other highstreet brands have their productions costs probably the same as Primark in exactly the same countries but sell their clothing range 10x more. Who's getting the profit then? The brands! Also boycotting Primark is too simplistic idea. First of all, some people really really can't afford to go anywhere else, second even low wages the workers are getting, they're getting a wage. If Primark was shutting down, it's possibly thousands and thousands or people who could face umployement and possibly worst living conditions. There are other ways to win the battle. Third, Primark doesn't do any advertisement, don't pay millions of pounds to have a model endorse their brands. Though verybody in UK though knows 'Primark'. Advertisement is insanely costly. And what you save on that, you can therefore save it on the clothes final price. As for the way some people have mentioned being or having been treated as a Primark employee, I think this is just the way work is in UK. I found employees generally treated badly with managers growing white hair and mountains of stress all for the sake of profit. Very rarely an ounce of common sense, humanity or just simply common sense that knowing how to motivate one's employees is the best profit maker in the world. You will get the least from them if you treat them like shit. And I insist on the word. Primark has changed a lot since the first time I stepped into one of their shops. I hated it for 3 reasons, cheap-looking/design, mess and queues. Also because at the time, the only great design highstreet could only be found in shops like Topshop, H&M and the lot. Now a strange thing happened in 2007. They opened a second shop where I live. It's not messy, it's spacious, the queue is not too painful to join, the designs are great, the overall quality has improved (still digusting stuff though), customer service and closing times are just fine. So what happened is that I now find myself going to Primark way more often than I would in other highstreets brands because Primark stuff now look just as good (again, not for everything) and I don't have to pay obscene prices for a quality that is not even better and sometimes worse! Only you can make your opinion about it. And I had said in the title it's not all white and black |

| I wouldnt work for Primark for any ammount of money. My girlfriend worked there for 2 months and got nothing but crap from them firstly... The pay is rubbish minimum wage with no perks (staff discounts) hell at least at showcase cinemas which i thought was crap you got two free cinema tickets a week... Next is the Attention given to staff it was my girlfriends birthday and i was taking her out so went up to her department as she said she finished at 2:30 to find out they wanted her to work an extra 30 mins which i thought was fine as it wouldnt take long to get ready anyways 30 mins later and she asks for a till check from the managers you'd think after doing them a favour they'd let her go and do the check...NO instead it was a further 30 mins before they got to her til and 15 mins to count it up really they were just trying to get as long out of her as possible while im standing there ready to put my fist through the wall! This though i think is the worst part she suffers from a condition called ulcerative colitus which means she gets realy bad stomach pains and can actually die from it if not treated in hospital with the appropriete drugs. Moving on she had one of these attacks while at work and of course asked if she could go as it was really bad they told her NO even though they where aware of her condition in the end she walked out and told them her health was more important than the job... after being admitted to hospital they didnt sack her and i hope they felt guilty afterwards. The final thing that at least made my girlfriend quit was the customer incident basically the guy on the next til was getting crap from a customer who was trying to get money back on an item rather than just exchanging the size of course over hearing this my girlfriend stepped in to point out that unless there are none in a suitable size then they cannot refund the product... So now the customer starts shouting all sorts of abuse at her and to top it of even the costumers daughter joins in! naturally my girlfriend called for security after one of them threatened her.. when the managers came along FINALLY to find out what wasa going on they sided with the customer and said that my gf was wrong in the matter and proceeded with a refund dispite the policy and of course the abuse suffered to my gf which was enough to make her quit ... AVOID PRIMARK COVENTRY ITS FULL OF A*#H*#ES I FEEL SORRY FOR ANY EMPLOYEE THERE REALLY BOYCOTT THE PLACE... |

| i work for primark and i am from one of those countries as it has been mentioned in newspapers. yes the workers are low paid according to uk standards but this is the fault of the countries in which these clothes are made, their government has no minimum wage policy , there is no such thing as human rights, government itself is not interested to make people's life better what difference can a company like primark make. don't blame primark for bringing cheap competition its other companies as well in these countries who make clothes at same prices as primark and sell it here in uk for 10 times its original price. thanks primark for making these other companies to stop us from ripping off |

| i work in the bradford prmark although it's a naff wage for what we have to do i like the job. the managmet are ok had some problems with the polish managers tho. i agree that we have to work even harder when lazy twats on't come into work they push u so hard to get the job done it's such a stressfull job. another thing i noticed was there's a pattern of passing the blame store manager gets told off passes it to department manager that passes to supervisor and then b4 u no it your stressed out and gettin all the crap. |

I like primark luton very much. ![]() |

| Beware of Primark at Romford, I used to work there. The Management are despicable, because I had a phobia for the lifts and therefore could not use them and stood up for my working rights, I was subjected to a smear campaign that forced me to resign. They recruited several staff members to help them with their attempt to force me out, one of which was a girl I trusted who turned out she was getting on with one of the managers. You can understand that if this is the way that they treat their staff in Britain, then God knows how they treat them abroad. I'm sure they will sleep well at night when they count their profits despite their use of slave labour at home and abroad! |

Ahh i am so glad i found this!! I decided on my own to try and boycott primark or pennys in ireland I just knew something wasn't right when i bought 4 dresses for 4 euro! I loved them but slowly i tried to figure out how and why i felt so good, really it didn't. I for one wouldn't work for 50p a hour would you? Why should someone else just so you can stay looking like everyone else? I am sickned by the silly comments about "loving primark" how can you say this after reading up on it....how else did you find this page?? Hopefully someday ethical clothes will be reasonably priced and easily available because at the moment in Ireland i can't think of many places that are 100% certified fair trade clothes. |

| I agree with the person that was discussing having to stay back after their contracted hours of 6.30pm. This is the same in the Lincoln branch as the management seem to think they can do as they please. Therefore I agree that someone needs to listen to us. Ive had enough of it, they dont employ enough staff and then they expect us to take the flack for it. We don't get paid enough for this. |

I cant believe so many of you are making comments irrelevant to the topic ...'primark is cheap and fab', bah bah bah... I think exploitation is sick and i am angry that so many people are naive about where their products come from and what it takes to get to you on the shop floor. I do not shop in primark for the reason that workers in places such a asia are treated terribly for money making goons. I would be willing to pay twice as much for an item if i know it had been produced fairly and the workers had been treated right, i know i cant change anything by my boycott (any many other places i boycott) but at least i can sleep at night. people educate yourselves of the world, theres more to life then shapeless clothes and accessorises from primark (oh and be aware you are all turning into clones!) you can spot primark clothes from a mile off and its not a pretty sight when every other person is wearing it. obviously there are two sides of the story and one would argue that the workers are being provided for through exploitation and i do see both arguements, but when companies make millions and billions of pounds a year i'm not going to put more money in their pocket by buying their products because thats where your money goes. some fat business man who probably supports bush ![]() |

| well i have just become a member of the Primark work force and i am really looking forward to working for them. The only thing that i don't think is right is that when you are an employee of Primark you can't walk into one of there stores to buy anything without declaring that you're an employee and buy your stuff through the customer service desk which takes a long time |

| I often shop at Primark but have always felt a bit guilty and slightly dirty about it . Now I know why.50pan hour is NOT a living wage. The people who are paying for my cheap clothes are the factory workers. In other words I, the comparitively well off westerner, am scrounging off the poor third world working man, woman or-worse-child. It also follows that if a company can teat it's foreign workers so badly it won't be too kind to it's UK staff either. Now what to do? If I boycot the store already impoverished people may be out of work and be even worse off and people in the UK who need work won't have it either. But if I continue to shop there I encourage and take part in the exploitation of poor people. I hope that posting this comment may help but I still dont know what will be the best course of action. Suggestions welcomed when I next visit this message board. I hope that |

| I used to enjoy working at Primark in Luton but this has changed with the previous conduct of the new store manager. On saturdays we are normally meant to finish at 6.30pm but since 2 weeks ago, the store manager has been keeping us in till 7.10pm, 6.55pm without our consent. Some members of the weekend staff do not turn up to work every week but he expects us to do their work and when we cannot finish the work, he tells us that under the contract, he can keep us in for as long as he wants and we are to blame for the work not being done on time. For me this is not right and some changes need to be made because what is the point in our contract stating that we finish at 6.30pm when management feel that they can lock us in without our consent when it is not our fault that staff members do not turn up. The whole situation is getting out of hand. I would not complain if this was a normal Primark policy but I know it is not because my friends that work for other Primark stores told me that their store managers do not behave this way. Also when the Luton store opened last June, we were always consulted about staying for some extra minutes after 6.30pm. We were never forced to stay. Majority of the weekend staff members have been complaining but like me, they need the job to take some weight off their parents' shoulders. England is a democratic country and somebody need to listen. |

Heyahh jus fought i wud say primark is ayce_ Love Chloee_x |

I bye loads of clothing from primark all the time it.d fab and cheap ![]() |

i lv primark so much there are nice clothes in there i buy some of mine there and bags and purses and belts too . . . you shud go . . . check it out! ![]() |

| primark have the Ethical trading initiative in place and do pay a decent wage to all its suppliers... suppliers from china, iran etc... all get a fair wage... enough to live on and is not minimum wage... uk minimum wage is 3.30 i think... primark staff in some stores are paid nearly double that... have you read the eti policy in place in primark... if you are unsure about eti and primarks involvement with its suppliers... ask any primark member and they will explain eti to you |

| Primark should give their workers a better wage seeing as the amount of profit they are making is really good. If so, then people would shop there even more. I like their stuff a lot but because of the cost of wages do shop their as often as I could and not worth when you think that people are suffering ill health, starvation, locked up, beaten for 50 pence an hour would we work in these conditions in Britain I think not. |

At least these people have got a constant job. It is appauling the pay it should be more. Hopefully if your campaign takes off and they get more money i still hope we can get bargain clothes. ![]() |

| I was horrified to learn that the company I work for sells products for around £4, but only pays those making them 5p an hour. It's disgraceful and depressing that the greed of those in wealthier countries causes the poverty in others. |

| I shop quite a lot at Primark - and always come away feeling quite guilty. I find it very hard to find information about Primark's supply chain, and suspect it is not wholly ethical - which probably means i should abandon shopping there until i can be sure i'm not buying into exploitation. However, how sure can one be of the ethical credentials of many other high street stores? Furthermore the availability of truly ethical products is still very limited. Plus with the mass ownership of high street stores by companies like Associated British Foods, choice is ever more constrained and it is not always clear whose products you are really buying. I find the whole business frustrating and depressing! |
